The Freelancing Females Holiday Gift Guide

The holidays are here (was Hanukkah early or was it just me) and I am actually buying a few people presents this year. And by a few people I mean Tia, myself and maaaaybe mom - if she calls me back. Here are the gifts I have my eye on this year, that I think my fellow freelancing females would adore - some of which have special FF-only discounts ;)

Cool Tech

could your charger be any more glam??

  1. The Moleskine Smart Planner - I am a very analog gal myself, but all the tech geniuses agree that this technological creation is the ultimate blending of Moleskine’s classic notebook with all the bells and whistles of a powerful tech integrated tool. I want!

  2. The Courant wireless charging station - I hate cords, and I hate all my pocket items floating around on my bedside table or bookshelf. Enter Courant. I mean, Oprah’s loves them, so how can you go wrong?

  3. ŌURA ring - I am really not a fitbit or apple watch person, I’m sorry. Actually no I’m not. But I do become curiouser and curiouser about monitoring my health. The Ōura ring is the most beautiful, minimal creation I’ve seen in this regard.

  4. Electric Scooters - Do you remember when the scooter craze was first unleashed? Feels like 10 years ago. Well I have never been an early adopter to these things, and the new generation of electric scooters rides like a DREAM. I truly have so much fun bopping around on these! My favorite app is Bird, followed closely by Lime, which in some cities has more availability, so check out both and take someone you love on a scoot.

  5. Canva - if you know a freelancer still stuck using the free version, the ultimate gift would be buying her a year of Canva Pro. WOW is it a time saver. And my designers (Hi Ali + Madison!) can make me templates so I still get really high quality graphic design but can tweak little things when necessary.

Money Stuff

  1. Last year, I decided to start taking financial literacy more seriously, and got on the Public app to learn a bit about investing. Now, they’re about to launch a whole new product around cryptocurrencies! Gift a woman who wants more wealth some money to play with and invest in what she believes in - it’s fun and social too.

  2. May be a bit dry to gift to a friend, but if you have a colleague or collaborator who has been complaining about sending invoices, gift them Lumanu!!! We switched this year and love it, and their whole team. They have a very special referral deal running right now too.

Libations + Victuals

no holiday table is complete without it

mmmm… mud :)

  1. First things first: bubbles. Have you tried Cara Delevingne’s Della Vite prosecco??? It is like velvet and sparkles and pure gold, and vegan and sourced super carefully from a single vineyard, and created by the three Delevingne sisters which is too cute. Oh and under $30 ;)

  2. MUD\WTR - I guess mushrooms are here to stay, friends. During the pandemic I had to reduce my caffeine intake, and MUD\WTR has been a great replacement that balances out my health routine. And they are an amazing company overall, so I’m proud to buy my “mud” from them.

  3. Toodaloo - Tooda-wha? I know, too cute. I am always on the hunt for portable, shelf stable superfoods, and this new woman-owned and created company is just too adorable not to try. Check out their innovative flavors and functionalities, and their ultra conscious sustainable practices. (and somehow way more affordable than similar snacks from other luxury makers)

Experiences

view from an incredible unsettled trip

beautiful room by modsy

  1. For the gal who moved or decided it’s time to upgrade her apartment this year, check out Modsy. Tia used them to design her office / guest room when she moved to Austin and raves about the hands on designer experience and the great deals for high quality furnishing - no guesswork needed. (use Freelancing25 for 25% off your package by the end of the year!)

  2. The Unsettled travel experience could be the ultimate gift for the girl who really missed traveling last year and is ready to get back out there. I personally have my eye on a month-long retreat in Bali or a week of sailing led by a female Olympic sailing champion! They also have really cool immersive remote experiences if you know someone who wants more of a staycation vibe. (Take $100 off with code FemaleFree100)

  3. Literary ladies, take note: The Belletrist book club could be perfect for you. The co-hosts, Emma Roberts and Karah Priess, are very cool, very smart, and GREAT at choosing which books to read together.

Things to Last a Lifetime

verameat says “meow”

  1. The Cambridge Satchel Co. is my personal favorite bag maker on the planet, and they just happen to be woman founded and owned, ethically sourced, union made bags constructed by hand in the UK. And they are just the best. They also interviewed me for their blog which was like a dream come true so… Use code FFEMBOSSING for free embossing on your beautiful bag.

  2. Lady-owned and operated eye catching and inspiring jewels from Brooklyn? Yes please. VERAMEAT never ceases to amaze me with how they push the boundaries of what jewelry can be. (they’re also great to follow on IG)

  3. Another woman making beautiful innovative things is starcrafts - her jewelry is literally lit up from within by tiny LED lights, and is utterly breathtaking.

  4. For the home chef, cookware is always a very great choice. We are loving W&P Design’s cocktail sets, kits for commuters to eliminate single-use plastics, and glassware.

Self Care

  1. Give something beautiful that you know will mean so much not only to the recipient, but to the woman who makes the gift, with Gifted by freefrom. Each gift is made by and supports survivors of domestic abuse with a living wage, as well as a ton of other programs to help women recover and thrive after their pain. They are also running an incredibly fun holiday giveaway to make your purchase even more special.

  2. If I was gonna recommend one app (other than Canva) it was always going to be The CHANI App. To be perfectly honest, I’m not really a devoted follower of astrology, and sometimes people who are “into astrology” kinda annoy me. I think Chani Nicholas could poke me in the eye and call me Karen and she still couldn’t ever manage to annoy me. Her weekly readings and audio weave in as much grounded life advice and social liberation wisdom as they do knowledge of the stars and the great beyond. I love her. And her wife is the founder of freefrom! <3

  3. For your lovely lady parts - The Honeypot Co is the magical kit for your kitty, as they say, and we love supporting this Black woman owned company. My personal fave is the individually packaged sensitive cleansing wipe - I always keep one on me for a post-workout refresh.

  4. I never thought I would recommend a personal exercise machine but here we are in 2021 and everyone knows that Peloton is LIFE. But for the slightly more aquatic home exercise experience, have you heard of Hydrow?? Makes me want to join a rowing team this summer

  5. Are you Actually Curious? I thought so. This conversation card game and thoughtful experience agency was invented by my friend, and he now runs the company with his wonderful partner. I don’t know why couples who can rock business together is so charming to me, but it just is. Use code FREELANCINGFEMALES at checkout for 15% off through end of year!

it really doesn’t get better than playing a game with your besties

Beautiful + Useful

  1. You can NEVER go wrong with a notebook for a creative woman. Never! The one I have on my mind right now is Rifle Paper Co’s new embroidered sketchbook masterpiece. Also did you know they are a woman-founded and awned company?? How did I not know that.

  2. I am buying myself Allbirds for Christmas. There I said it. As with many things, I am late to the game here, but these shoes are the only ones I personally have seen that give the comfort, functionality, beauty, and commitment to sustainable business practices that I need. So that’s that. And they just IPO’d with an incredibly powerful new commitment to the environment.

  3. Speaking of clean, the only place I buy makeup these days is credo beauty. If you can, try to visit one of their stores in person - the staff are so so kind and can always help you kind exactly what you need (which is saying something because I usually have NO idea). Use code Clean10 for 10% off, friends.

If these gift ideas didn’t inspire you… I got nothin’ more for ya. But you could always go with a Target gift card? (omg please don’t do that)

Happiest Winter Holidays to you and yours, Freelancing Females! We love you and can’t wait for the new year!
