Overcommunicate!

If you’re working remotely, your clients will want to feel confident that you’re working on their projects when they can’t physically see you. Build trust by giving them status updates along the way and letting them know where you’re at in the process. 

Find solutions for their problems! 

Go above and beyond to find better ways for your clients to get their work done. Find time-saving programs and other resources that can benefit both of you during your time together and set your client up for success even after you’ve ended your contract. When they see what added value you bring to them and their business, we see a contract extension in your future. 

Let them know you’re thinking of them!

Before a client can ask you for a status update, take the initiative to let them know! Reach out here and there beyond your scheduled meeting times to update them on how things are. Stay organized and on top of deadlines so you can let them know how you are progressing on their projects. Just a quick email or slack message is all it takes to make your client feel confident in your services! 

Understand the bigger goal!

Don’t just mindlessly go through the tasks your client passes to you - really take time to understand the WHY behind their business. Get inside your client’s head by understanding why each task is important and part of something bigger, allowing you to provide better work in the process. 

Once you can see the path your client is trying to take with their business, find new ways to help them reach their goals and show your value as a freelancer. You never know what new opportunities can come to both of you with a mindset like this!

Leave the door open for feedback! 

If things aren’t going well with a client, it doesn’t have to be the end. Be open to accepting criticism and feedback from those you work with so that you can continuously grow into your best self as a freelancer. 

Once you receive feedback from your client, find ways to implement that into your time together and show how you make the change they’re looking for.  Of course, we always support healthy working relationships, so if it is truly not a great fit, don’t be afraid to walk away and look for something that fits your better.
