Women's History Month - Let's Celebrate Women in Business

March marks the beginning of Women’s History Month and at Freelancing Females we will take any excuse big or small to celebrate women! Gender inequality is still sadly alive and well within the world, with women being paid less for the same roles as our male counterparts and receiving dramatically less VC funding than men. We want to help women build lives they’re in control of because when women are in the driving seat, everyone is better off. So let’s take a look at a few wonderful female-founded businesses.

Lettuce

We love it when our FF community helps build seriously useful businesses! Some of you may remember one of our first podcast episodes with Christina Nizar and Ambika Nigam, longtime friends and the co-founders of Ziet and now they’ve helped to build Lettuce. As Freelancing Females themselves Christina and Amibika understand the frustrations we self-employed folk come across when it comes to tax time. This led them to help build Lettuce. The automated tax and accounting software, created to empower solopreneurs to create the life they deserve. Giving freelancers access to the same tax and accounting strategies as larger companies.

Lettuce doesn't want freelancers to keep leaving money on the table. Lettuce looks at every dollar in your business daily to help you keep more of what you earn.

Here are a few ways Lettuce helps you:

Make the System Work for You.

Lettuce helps each member understand the options they can use to reduce their taxes. It’s like having an accountant specializing in solopreneurs, that explains how the complexities of the tax system are holding you back.

Lettuce Handles it All!

Lettuce is not another DIY solution. Once you onboard as a member, Lettuce first sets up your LLC and S Corp. Then wave goodbye to your accounting headaches as Lettuce takes care of your taxes, bookkeeping and accounting. No more tracking expenses, no all-nighters, and no complicated software for you to navigate. Where do we sign?!

Your Money, Your Way:

You’re still in charge, but Lettuce does all the heavy lifting for you. Members choose what to automate, what to spend, and how much to save. They make managing your accounts feel easy.

Black Woman Owned

Black Woman Owned is a community of those who understand the need to amplify and purchase from Black Woman-owned businesses. Their mission is to give Black woman-owned businesses visibility through social and digital media to help increase their annual revenue. Founded by A. Walton Smith, as a wife, full-time employee, mother and entrepreneur she understands just how difficult it is to build a business from scratch. Not to mention juggling every role whilst marketing your product or service. Black Women Owned not only serves as a place to find businesses to support but a marketing tool for those businesses to thrive. A great resource and community for us all to support!

For Days

Another amazing Female founded and directed business. Co-founded by Kristy Caylor and Mary Saunders the pair know how broken the fashion industry is and set out to fix it. Their mission is to keep clothing out of landfills by using a Take Back scheme which incentivizes consumers to return clothing they no longer need by giving them a place to recycle their used clothing. When you return a bag of clothes you are given a $20 cash reward to use back in the store. With 85% of used clothing ending up in landfills and with consumption habits increasing by 400% over the last twenty years their Take Back Bag is helping us work towards a circular economy for the fashion industry by keeping 90% of the clothing they receive out of landfills. Plus, 1% of their profits go towards charity. Companies with big missions *chefs kiss!
